When it came time to replace their old furnace, the Caton’s in Kirkland, WA decided to do it right. Their old furnace showed signs of significant duct leakage at the plenum, and on the exposed ductwork throughout their house. The dark patches visible on the yellow insulation (see photo below) show where unconditioned air (and dirt) are leaking into the airstream. Not only does this waste the heat they paid for, it can create real problems with indoor air quality. In addition, the old venting needed to be replaced.

When we removed the plenum, we found that the throat was undersized, and was restricting airflow. this would create problems with comfort and reliability of the new furnace, and with the Caton’s approval, we fixed this problem. We sealed the new basecan and the rebuilt plenum to eliminate leakage. We then insulated and wrapped the new duct. Our installers sealed and insulated the remaining exposed ductwork in the Canton’s home, ensuring the Canton’s comfort, and the system’s delivered efficiency.

York YPLC Modulating Furnace

This system is designed to deliver only as much heat as is needed, based on demand. With the right installation, the York modulating, variable speed furnace selected by the Canton’s will deliver years of reliable comfort. They also selected a Trane CleanEffects filtration system – the most effective whole-house filtration system available. With it’s variable speed blower motor, this system can also save on energy costs, while running quietly, and continuously filtering and gently circulating the air throughout their home.

Congratulations to Installation Technicians: Brandon Richer, Jose Salmeron, and Josh Talik – Our Installation of the Week winners for the week of June 11th!
