BelRed has been advised by SUPCO, Inc., of a potential safety hazard with surge protectors installed on HVAC systems between 2010 and 2014.
Some models of the ‘Supco SCM 150’ and ‘Supco SCM 60’ surge protectors supplied by the distributor do not meet specifications. These surge protectors are prone to overheating, posing a potential fire hazard over time. We urge our customers to inspect their systems as soon as possible. If you find that your HVAC system has a Supco SCM 150 or SCM 60 installed, contact a licensed HVAC contractor like BelRed for immediate replacement. DO NOT attempt to remove a surge protector yourself: only a licensed HVAC contractor and/or licensed electrician should remove the unit.

How do I know whether I have a Supco SCM 60 or SCM 150 surge protector installed?
- View the VISUAL GUIDE to check your system. The surge protector’s model number is printed on the name plate sticker located on front of the unit.
What should I do if I find the Supco SCM 60 or SCM 150 installed on my HVAC system?
- Contact BelRed or the manufacturer, Supco, for immediate replacement. DO NOT attempt to remove a surge protector yourself.
How long does replacement take?
- A licensed HVAC contractor like BelRed can typically replace a surge protector in less than one hour.
